The study also found that women had a higher risk of suffering depression than men' though the gap is narrowing. And this study revealed that African American women were 40 per cent less likely to suffer from depression than whites and Latinos' and blacks though the percentage is less' are likely to suffer for a longer period of time and are more likely to have a recurrence. The article also states' that 25 percent of patients receive psychopharmacological and psychosocial treatment' and majority have taken their lives or committed suicide' and attempted at least once before prior to death. It is noted that these adults have spoken of death' and wanting to end life before finally committing suicide. What do all of these mean? Have you paid enough attention to those who are living with you? Where have you failed? It does boil down to the fact that our own lack of attention on those who needed us most' may have led to what they are suffering and going through right now. The symptoms will be the same' emptiness within you' lack of motivation' withdrawal and wanting to be left alone' feeling of helplessness and hopelessness. Though people are treated for depression' unless the root cause of loneliness is handled or an alternative solution is found' the loneliness will prevail' and there will not be any way out of it. As such' depression will take root again. This is a ‘chicken and egg’ situation. Therefore' it is vital that in depth study is made' and a solution is found to eliminate loneliness in their lives.
It is important that these people are taken for the right treatment. Staying with them' motivating and encouraging and teaching them the importance of medication' and speaking positive and encouraging words' will speed up the healing process. The attention paid on them will give them a sense of security and feeling of wanting' and this will expedite the procedure. Lack of attention coupled with loneliness are feeling of neglect and your presence and care in their lives' may give them a brighter tomorrow. |
