They will keep monitoring the effects of these antidepressants' and if found that it has no effect on the patient' the medication will be changed to get the best results. All who suffer this disorder are unique biochemically' as such they will always be able to find the best suitable treatment' and if found a family member has had depressive episodes' they will start with this form of treatment to the patient first' as the physicians feel that it is the most effective form of treatment to another family member.

The biochemical reality is that all treatments such as SSRIs' MAOIs (Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors)' TCAs (Tricyclic Antidepressants) and Atypical Antidepressants have an effect on neurotransmitters' serotonin and norepinephrine. It is found that the newer antidepressants have robust effect on the serotonins and the norepinephrines. These have found to be very effective on serious cases of major depression.

Major depression though is known to be a serious disease it is also a treatable disease. Many have recovered well' with the above treatment coupled psychological and talk therapy. According to research they have found that these two combined form of treatment has brought out the best results in patients.
