About Child Depression: Child Depression

Read about causes for a child's depression and what can be done to treat it. Depression not only affects the person who is going through it, but also everyone around them, including friends, family, loved ones, spouses, and children.

Causes for child depression
There can be a variety of reasons that might lead to child depression. Some times a child could be depressed due to continuous stress build ups or continuous failure. Some times a child might become depressed due to a number of events' rather than a single event' that might make them feel pressured' stressed out and lonely.

There are other reasons that cause depression as well. One is chemical imbalance. Research show that adults and children have the tendency to get depressed' if they have a chemical imbalance. The exact cause of chemical imbalance is not known. Another factor is genetic imbalance. If depression often runs in the family then it is possible that the child will inherit these issues from their parents. Personality types also affect depression factors. If a person has negative attitudes' then this might be a major influence on being depressed. External environment also affects people in many ways. The external environment will influence the way a person thinks and behaves. If the individual is not capable of handling the pressures of the outside world then that person might become depressed.

How each individual handles a situation depends upon that individual’s character and strength. Most of the time children will not share with their parents or guardian on what is bothering them. Even if the parents ask they might just wave it off and say that they are doing fine. This is normal human behavior. Children or adults don’t like to show that they are in the middle of a problem. This is especially true if the individual has a strong character.

One of the main things that can cause a child to be depressed is peer-pressure. Parents or guardians might not even see any sign of sadness or solitude in the beginning. But peer-pressure is one of the main causes for a child to become depressed. Children and especially teenagers tend to think that they are the center of attention. Your child might be popular among the others or might not be. What ever might be the situation if their peers direct their attention to some other direction or if your child is not considered “a part of the gang” by others there is a great possibility that your child will feel left out which may eventually lead to depression.

It is up to the people around the persons who show signs of depression to try and help them. If the depression becomes worse it is advisable to treat that person medically. Being depressed is also a part of life. How depression affects each person depends on how strong that person is. Every body has their good times and bad and some times it is alright to ask for help.
