I have two girls and decided after my second was born (10 yrs. after the first) I wanted to stay at home and not miss a thing! But with my husband now being self-employed I also needed to bring in a little extra to keep money coming in. I started a travel consulting business from home that offered information on unique and different places to vacation or overnight that were right here in our home state. I had so many friends and family calling all the time anyway asking us where to go because my husband and I were always finding new places to go for just us or the family, so needless to say I decided to sell that information, so far so good. But I needed another avenue since being in Minnesota the winter approaching was a bad time to start this business.
I have always been a crafter and so have all my family members so my mom and I came up with the idea of gift baskets that people could custom order and to make it even more appealing I added the idea of products made or produced by individuals or companies from only our state! I went to numerous craft shows and purchased product, collected brochures and business cards and started the contacting. The response was overwhelming so I contacted the large manufacturers also and they were willing to work with me as well. So far things are going very well and hopefully by this time next year we will need to hire help to fulfill all the orders!
