An Interview with Dr. Melisa Christian on Invisalign

Dr. Melisa Christian is a dentist and has answered some of the common questions bizymoms visitors have about Invisalign.

Q.  What is Invisalign®?

A. Invisalign® is an orthodontic (teeth moving/straightening) system that is invisible so no one knows you’re using it. Much more comfortable than braces, it’s a series of "aligners" that look sort of like mouth guards that, unlike braces, are removable for eating/brushing.

Q.  How does Invisalign® work?

A. Using CAD/CAM technology, the dentist develops a treatment plan that determines which teeth will be moved, for how long, where they’ll be moved to, and in what order.  Then, a series of "aligners" are created, where each aligner is used by the patient for two weeks, then discarded and replaced with the next aligner.  Each aligner moves the teeth specifically as developed in the treatment plan.  When the last aligner has been completed, you have a new, corrected smile.

Q.  What are the primary benefits of Invisalign®?

A. For adults in particular, the fact no one can tell you’re wearing the aligners is a big plus.  Everyone likes their comfort versus wire braces – no more tearing up the inside of your lips and cheeks.  The ability to remove the aligner to eat, brush, and floss means not getting food stuck in the braces.  Usually treatment takes less time than traditional braces.

Q.  How long does Invisalign® treatment take?

A. Everyone is different, but typically it’s less time than if traditional braces were used.

Q.  How much does Invisalign® cost?

A. A full case can typically be 100% financed for under $200/month using one of our finance companies.

Q.  Who uses Invisalign®?

A. Hollywood stars like Tom Cruise and Katherine Heigl, athletes, blue collar workers, doctors, and any adults who want to straighten their teeth but don’t want a metal smile. Responsible teens are frequently patients, as are persons of any age who have crowding of their lower front teeth and are concerned about the increased risk of heart disease and stroke from gum disease.

Q.  Are there certain dental conditions that automatically exclude someone from being an eligible patient?

A. Invisalign® is a great substitute for metal braces in most cases, particularly adults who wore braces as kids but whose teeth have now drifted.  There are some folks, though, whose condition is extremely severe, who need traditional braces and/or surgery to fully correct their smile. We can determine this on the initial visit, and can refer such a person to someone who specializes in such cases.

Q.  How to contact Dr. Christian if we have further questions?

A. You can go to http://www.dallas-cosmetic-dentist.us/texas-orthodontics/invisalign-braces-dallas- tx.html or call Merrit at (214) 739-8888 to set up a FREE initial consultation with Dr. Christian on Invisalign®.
