Q. Can I be too old for braces?
A. In general, tooth position can be improved at practically any age. While we tend to associate orthodontic treatment with children, age is not a limiting factor since the tissue involved in tooth movement is essentially the same for children and adults. Today, more and more adults are recognizing the benefits of orthodontic treatment, especially with the new IncognitoTM invisible lingual braces.
Q. How much do braces cost?
A. Treatment fees vary widely depending upon the severity of the problem and the length of treatment. Dr. Cope will discuss general treatment fees at the initial examination. After definitive diagnosis and treatment planning for your specific needs utilizing the diagnostic records, Dr. Cope will give you the exact fee during the treatment consultation.
Q. When will I begin to see changes in my teeth after the braces are put on?
A. There are several different stages of tooth movement as orthodontic treatment proceeds. Initially we begin to unravel the teeth. This makes a noticeable improvement in the appearance very quickly. So, changes begin to occur within the first few days after the braces are placed.
Q. Will I need to have teeth extracted for braces?
A. The decision on whether or not to extract teeth is based on the patient’s dental crowding and position of their teeth. Although extractions are required in some circumstances, this is a rare occurrence in our office.
Q. How long will it take to complete the treatment?
A. Orthodontic treatment times vary considerably, and can range from 6 months to 30 months depending on the severity of the problem. Most comprehensive orthodontic treatment times range from 18-24 months.
