An Interview with Dr. Julita S. Patil on Porcelain Veneers

Dr. Julita S. Patil is a dentist and has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Porcelain Veneers.

Q. What are porcelain veneers?

A. Porcelain veneers are thin shells of ceramic that bond directly to the front surfaces of the teeth. They are an ideal choice for improving your smile and have become increasingly popular due to their simplicity and versatility.

Placing custom veneers requires a high degree of technical skill as well as attention to cosmetic detail. We place veneers routinely, and design each case individually to match and enhance the characteristics of each patient’s smile.

Q. How long do dental veneers last?

A. With proper care, porcelain veneers will brighten your smile for well over a decade.

Dr. Patil will ensure that your veneers are crafted from the highest quality porcelains and are bonded with the most advanced and proven materials available.

Q. Do dental veneers require special care?

A. Refraining from using your veneers as tools to open and cut things will prolong their life, and if accidental breakage or damage occurs, it is usually possible to replace only the veneer involved.

Q. Are there alternatives to dental veneers?

A. Alternatives to porcelain dental veneers: Chairside composite veneers that are done right in the office. They do not last as long as porcelain veneers and can stain over time. The average life of a composite veneer is about 5 years.

Q. Do Veneers look natural?

A. When bonded to the teeth, the ultra-thin porcelain veneers are virtually undetectable and highly resistant to coffee, tea, or even cigarette stains. For strength and appearance, their resemblance to healthy, white tooth enamel is unsurpassed by other restorative options.

Q. Does the veneer protect one’s tooth from decay?

A. Porcelain veneers do not protect one from dental decay. As with any dental restoration (fillings, crowns, veneers) there is a risk of decay if proper oral hygiene is not performed.

Q. How much does veneer cost?

A. The cost of porcelain veneers depends on the type of porcelain used. There are different kinds, each having unique esthetic characteristics. Typically, they can cost around $1000 each.

Q. How to contact Dr. Patil if we have further questions?
