In what is considered the Information Age, we all need to communicate, be it for personal or business tasks. Computers and technology have become an integral part of our everyday lives, encompassing almost everything we do from making a phone call to sending out correspondence via email, fax or text and instant messages, and voice and video chat. We depend on technology to keep in touch with friends and family, as well as business colleagues and partners.
Communication is the process of sharing ideas, information and messages with others. The most basic communication methods that are known to man are speech and non-verbal expressions such as facial expressions and body language. Apart from these basic methods of communication there are other methods of communication. These methods began to evolve and become complex as the wants and needs of human beings became complex.
One of the major means of communication is writing. Most languages do have a written form. It can be written down and some one else may read it and understand the meaning. Writing has been used from the time of the Mayans and Egyptians. The oldest record of writing is some 5000 years old. Writing in the early days was used to mark down the major events of history. It was also used inside temples and burial chambers of kings and other important rulers to state who and what took place during the relevant time period. Visual communication also goes hand in hand with writing. The first paintings found were drawn more that 5000 years ago, well before words were written down. Paintings was used in the past like writing, to preserve the memory of some one or some event so that future generations may come to know of the might, majesty and power of the rulers and past civilizations.
Other than these methods of communication there were other methods used to signal and communicate with in a distance. Our ancestors developed systems for sending simple messages or signals over a distance through drumbeats, fire or smoke signals, lanterns, birds and arrows. Birds carried messages through a long distance. The message was attached to a foot of a Pigeon or a Falcon who flew home with the message. This specific method of communication was used to a great extent during World War I.
Communication has many different types of definitions. Some of them are as follows.

When it comes to normal human communication we can find two main parts of communication channels. One is verbal communication and the other is non verbal communication. If we think of communication based on style and purpose we can categorize it into two main parts, formal and informal communication. We can categorize communication on many other forms and bases as well.
Networking can be defined as ``any set of interlinking lines resembling a net, a network of roads || an interconnected system, a network of alliances.'' (www.interhack.net, 21/08/2008). It is the same when it comes to computer networks as well. A computer network can be connected in many ways; the method is not our priority. The priority is to figure out the number of ways that we can connect the computers. So we can say that a computer network is an interconnected network of computers.
The internet, since discovered as a powerful communication tool has grown, expanded and spread through out the world like wild fire. It has since become arguably the most powerful source of communication and resource. Many people in the world have access to the internet and almost every company has full access to surf the net.
