City of Cleveland

Cleveland is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Cuyahoga County, the most populous county in the state. Located in northeastern Ohio on the southern shore of Lake Erie, approximately 60 miles west of the Pennsylvania border, covers an area of 82.42 square miles. Cleveland is bisected from north to south by the Cuyahoga River. Annual average temperature is around 49.6° F and ranges from 25.7° F during January to 71.9° F in July. Cleveland contributed a number of industrial discoveries that benefited national growth and prosperity in the nineteenth century.


The Cleveland city was founded in 1796 near the mouth of the Cuyahoga River, and became a manufacturing center owing to its location at the head of numerous canals and railroad lines. The city was named after a U.S. General Moses Cleaveland was sent in 1796 by the Connecticut Land Company to survey the Western Reserve, a one-half million acre tract of land in northeastern Ohio, which was at that time called "New Connecticut." Cleveland was incorporated in 1836.

One of Cleveland's most popular attractions is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the world's only facility dedicated to the living heritage of rock and roll music. Festivals are held all year round which attracts thousands of visitors each year. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, followed two months later by a festive St. Patrick's Day Parade through downtown are few examples. Cleveland is home to many museums like African American Museum, Children's Museum of Cleveland, Cleveland Museum of Natural
