| Chicago Invisalign : Cleaning and Caring for your Invisalign Braces |
One of the best features of Invisalign braces is the fact that the aligners are removable and easy to clean. What this means for you is that you needn't worry about embarrassing food particles getting stuck and yellowing of teeth as is the case with traditional metal braces. In fact, you won't be able to clean your teeth as you should with old fashioned braces as they get in the way, and you are left with a toothbrush and floss, with hours spent in front of a mirror, trying to make your teeth look presentable. Try Invisalign in Chicago and see for yourself.
Cleaning your Invisalign aligners is simple, and necessary. Once you start wearing your aligners, you will notice that the plaque and tartar that builds around teeth get transferred and begin to show on your aligners. This would mean that they would begin to lose much of their "invisible" quality, getting clouded with the debris and start to give off an unpleasant odor. Fortunately, you get to wear a clean, fresh aligner pretty soon, but cleaning them regularly will help keep them clean for the entire duration of wear.
To clean your aligners, you can use the Invisalign cleaning system, which involves the soaking in a solution made by dropping a cleaning crystal in water to remove the built up tartar and plaque. While this process is effective in cleaning your aligners, it is also somewhat pricey, which is why many patients look for more budget friendly alternatives. As luck would have it, there are plenty of options to choose from.
Using a denture cleaner is known to help clean aligners. Denture cleaner brands such as Polident and Efferdent are widely used by patients with Invisalign braces, and are reported to be effective. Soak your aligner twice a day in a solution containing one tablet of denture cleaner and water, for an hour each time. You can choose to do this at meal times because you take the aligners off anyway. Check for abrasiveness, etchings or cloudiness caused by the cleaner, and discontinue use of the cleaner if you notice any such damage.
Baking soda also does trick. You can dissolve one teaspoon of baking soda in half a cup of water and allow your aligner to soak in this solution for an hour, repeating this process twice a day. Or you can use a small amount of baking soda on a children's toothbrush with soft bristles, scrubbing gently in a circular motion to achieve the same effect. Another option would be to use a small amount of Dawn dishwashing liquid in water, in a sonic jewelry cleaning machine, and allow the gentle waves to do the job for you. Or, you could just use a drop of Dawn on a soft or electric toothbrush, and gently scrub away the debris.
Whichever option you pick, cleaning your aligners is important as it helps maintain your overall oral health. With so many alternatives available, you can have sparkly clean aligners every day. |
