 You have been recognized for your charitable efforts. How did you first get started?

The idea was to offer free dental care to those in need on Valentine’s Day. The plan was to ask the dental specialist that I work with and my staff to participate. It had been something I have wanted to do for some time, but something always seemed to get in the way. I attended a charity event that Chad Coe a friend of mine put together called “Special Kids Network”. I was amazed at how well it was run and put together. I thought if he could put on this great event I should be able to do it also.

So I called medical and dental surgeon Dr. David Hanson of the Lincoln Park Institute, periodontist Dr. Gary Hosters of Norwood Park Periodontics, and general dentist Dr. Henry Lotsof of Ravenswood Dental and asked them if they would be interested in joining me. They immediately said yes. I sat down and thought that there was no turning back now. Little did I realize how much more help I was going to need to do this right. My wife Caron jumped in and started organizing and decorating. My entire staff volunteered to work the day for free. Business in the neighborhood donated food and my dental supplier donated supplies. Before I knew it most of the neighborhood was volunteering something. I was pleasantly surprised how many wonderful people there are in the world.
    
To date we have given away over 1.25 million dollars of free dentistry and have helped over 2,000 people.  But a funny thing happened along the way. I started the charity to give back to the community that has been so good to me and to help change the lives of those in need, but it was my life that has changed the most. My only regret is that I wish I didn’t procrastinate so long and have done it sooner.
