Q. How does laser hair removal work?
Energy from the laser is absorbed by dark thick hairs, and heats up the hair follicle. Those hairs in the anagen, or growing, phase do not reform, as the hair follicle is destroyed. The hairs in the telogen (shedding) phase or catagen (transitional) phase do not seem to be permanently affected. This is why several treatments are necessary, in order to allow the hairs to shift into the anagen phase.
Q. How long does laser hair removal procedure take?
Usually 5-7 treatments are needed to remove 80-90% of the hair. Each treatment length varies depending on the area being treated. Bikini’s take approximately 20 minutes, while the chin would take less than 5 minutes.
Q. Who are the best candidates for laser hair removal?
Those with fair skin and dark coarse hair are the best candidates. There are lasers for darker skinned patients, but the bigger the contrast in hair and skin color, the better the devices, overall, work.
Q. How effective is laser hair removal?
80-90% reduction will be efffected after 5-7 treatments.
Q. Is laser hair removal suitable for both men and women?
It is absolutely suitable for both men and women.
Q. How effective is the GentleLase laser system?
It is very effective, mostly for fair skin and dark coarse hair. I have used the device since 2000 and believe that it is the best device for fair patients. Can it be used on a wide range of skin tones? the 755nm wavelength can be absorbed by melanin, which causes the dark brown color in some patients skin, so it is better to use a different wavelength on darker patients.
