Q. What is breast augmentation?

Placing implants made of a silicone shell filled with either saline or silicone gell under the breast tissue and/or muscle to enhance the size and shape of the breasts and/or restore fullness lost with pregnancy, weight loss, etc.

Q. How should one prepare for breast augmentation surgery? 


Be at a stable weight.  At least 3 months after breast feeding.  Otherwise, not much prep necessary.

Q. How is a breast augmentation surgery performed? 

Outpatient surgey, implants placed through various incision choices.  Pocket is made for the implant either under muscle or on top and implant is placed.

Q. What are the possible longer-term, local effects in breast augmentation surgery?
 

Could leak, scar, droop, contract:  minimal risk

Q. What are the risks associated with breast augmentation?

Minimal risk of infection, scarring, bleeding, asymmetry, nipple sensation changes, implant leak, capsule contracture, etc

Q. What is the recovery time for breast augmentation?

1 week back to non strenuous "desk type job."  6 weeks  back to full exercise.  In between that time a gradual improvement and increase in activity.

Q. How much does breast augmentation cost? 

Total costs including surgeon, implants, facility fees, anesthesia, pre- and post-op follow-up etc. for saline implants is about $4,000.00;  for silicone gel implants about $4,850.
