Treat High Cholesterol:What Happens During a Stroke

A Stroke occurs when there is insufficient blood flow to the brain.  The blood carries essential nutrients and oxygen.  This is also known as a ‘brain attack’, as it occurs suddenly.  It is considered a cardiovascular disease and neurological disorder.

Treat High Cholesterol:What Happens During a Stroke?

A stroke occurs when an artery bringing oxygen and nutrients is blocked.  This is due to blocks or clogging in a blood vessel or an artery.  With the prevention of blood to the brain, the brain cells in that particular area begin to die.  Immediate treatment is a must to prevent further damage to the brain, as with time the cells in and around the damaged area of the brain begin to die.

The functions of the body are controlled by the brain.  As such with the brain damage the parts of the body controlled by the brain is affected.  This will have devastating effects as the dead brain cells cannot be replaced.

The movements, speech and vision are affected as a result of the stroke.

During a stroke the brain tissues die.  This is known as cerebral infarction.

The four main Types of Strokes that occur are cerebral thrombosis and cerebral embolism (caused by blood clotting), cerebral hemorrhages and subarachnoid hemorrhages (caused by hemorrhages).

Over 75% suffer from cerebral thrombosis and cerebral embolism.

Cerebral thrombosis and cerebral embolism strokes occur most often when the blood pressure is low.  And this is preceded by a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) or a ‘mini stroke. These mini strokes should not be ignored as this is a pre-warning of more serious attacks in the future.  This is due to blood clot forming outside the brain usually in the heart.  This starts to move around until it blocks a blood vessel that takes blood to the brain.

Cerebral hemorrhages and subarachnoid hemorrhages occur when a weak or defective artery in the brain bursts or ruptures and blood flowing into the surrounding areas.

A stroke usually happens suddenly, and the signs are:

Weakness or numbness on one side of the body.

Dizziness
Severe headache
Loss of coordination
Poor vision
Unable to understand
Face drooping
Slurred speech

When a stroke happens it is very important that the patient is given immediate treatment to avoid further damage to the brain.  The brain cells begin to die very fast, and two millions cells die in a minute.  This is why this attack is known to be very serious and deadly.  The delay in proper medication will result in further damage as the cells around the affected area begin die as well.  The effect and seriousness of the attack and the extent which the person suffers could be minimized if it is properly diagnosed and accordingly treatment is given.
