Causes of Heart Disease:Treating Heart Failure

Medical science has made several advancements in the field of heart ailments. As a result, treatment of heart failure has become a reality, and the success rate of treatments is also reasonably satisfactory. Nevertheless, the fact remains that heart failure is still the leading cause of deaths in most parts of the world.

Preventive medication has substantial benefits in case of heart disease, and reduces the chances of a heart or vascular failure. Even surgical procedures have a good rate of success for treating heart related problems.

The ideal treatment for heart failure involves a combination of surgical options, oral medication, a heart-healthy diet and physical activity, and an overall healthy and active lifestyle.

Various combinations of drugs are available that provide long-term benefits for the heart, and induce improvement in the heart’s condition. Apart from drugs, the following treatments are commonly used nowadays for various types of heart failure:

Angioplasty: This is a non-surgical procedure that helps to open a blocked artery with the use of a stent or a tube that is inserted inside to clear the blockage.

Brach therapy: This procedure involves use of radiotherapy to re-open a blocked artery when it may have narrowed or constricted again after an angioplasty procedure has been performed.

Bypass surgery: This is a commonly used surgical procedure these days, and the rate of success is also quite high. In this case, the surgeon creates a bypass for the passage of blood, when a blocked artery cannot be revived for blood circulation by other methods.

Heart valve surgery: A damaged valve can be repaired with the help of surgery or even without surgery in some cases. The non-surgical procedure is known as balloon valvuloplasty.

Cardio version technique: This procedure makes use of an electrical shock to revive the heart back to its rhythmic beating. The intensity of the shock varies, depending upon the condition of the heart.

EECP Technique: This is an advanced, non-surgical procedure (Enhanced External Counter Pulsation) that can be used in emergency situations when the heart is not responding to other treatments. This procedure helps to create a sort of natural bypass for a blocked artery.

Heart transplant: This revolutionary procedure was first introduced more than four decades ago. The procedure has evolved over the years, and can save a precious life that has no hope left due to a malfunctioning heart.

Pacemaker: This is another technological wonder of medical science that has been successfully employed and saved many lives all over the world. In emergency situations, the pacemaker helps to resuscitate the heart till medical help can be provided to the patient.
