What could be the worst nightmare than to hear your doctor say “You have breast cancer”? You will feel depressed and frustrated because once the cancer has grown to a certain extent; the victim will have to go through a lot of surgeries, therapies and other personal issues such as the loss of self-esteem, loss of personal relationships and loss of confidence.
This disease has been such a big problem because it is listed as the second leading cause of female cancer deaths. However, there are plenty of ways that one could overcome the threat of breast cancer, which include surgery, radiation therapy or systematic therapy. It is after this phase of treatment and surgery that comes the phase of recovery!
This period of recovery, however, could be a really hard time for the breast cancer survivor. Since it is a hard time for the patient, he/she should be given a lot of love, attention and care. By doing so, the breast cancer survivor would feel that he/she is not alone, and he/she has plenty of other people beside him/her through this difficult period. This is the main element that would help the victim feel happy and cared, thus leading to a quick recovery.
During this road to recovery, you should ensure that the patient receives enough rest. The reason for this is because the patient would have undergone surgery, and might have had other therapies done. The wounds will need to heal properly and so would the patient’s mind. Therefore, the more he/she rests the quicker the time of recovery.
Positive thinking, encouragement and back-up are a must if the patient is to recover quickly. The thought that he/she will return to his/her normal life would make the patient more relaxed and contented. Moreover, the patient should be relieved of all stress.
Since the patient has undergone surgery and is therefore weak, proper (healthy) food will have to be given to him/her so that it increases the speed of recovery as well as the resistance in his/her body against germs and other infections. During this stage, the patient should eat a lot of proteins, vitamins (E and C), and organic vegetables and fruits.
It should be made sure that the doctor’s orders and instructions are followed correctly. The doctor might suggest that the patient be given medicines at a specified time, be brought to the hospital for check-ups on certain dates or the patient be given their meals on time. The doctor might suggest that certain therapies (radiation therapy) be done in order to prevent recurrence. These orders therefore have to be obeyed promptly for a speedy recovery.
With all these in place, it is assured that the breast cancer survivor will have a better recovery process. This is said to be the toughest or hardest phase, since this is where the breast cancer survivor takes the first step in returning to the good old life, which means that everything should be in place for the patient to recover totally and live a happy life. |
