An Interview with Dr. Bradley Woodham on Root Canal

Dr. Bradley Woodham is a dentist and has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Root Canal.

Q. What is root canal treatment? What does treatment involve?

A. A root canal is basically a filling for the inside of the tooth. It treats an infection by removing the infected nerve and placing a filling material inside the tooth.

Q. What are the signs of needing endodontic treatment?

A. Sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweets that lingers for 30 seconds or longer. Spontaneous pain and severe pain at night. Pain with touching the tooth.

Q. Are pain pills and antibiotics an acceptable substitute for root canal?

A. No. Medication only aid the symptoms, they do not cure the infection.

Q. Are there alternative treatments for root canal?

A. Yes, removing the tooth.

Q. How much will the procedure cost?

A. It is based on which tooth is involved. Front teeth have only one canal, they have less. Premolars and molars have more canals, 2-4 canals.

Q. Will the tooth need any special care or additional treatment?

A. It will depend on why it became infected to begin with. A front tooth can sometimes get by with only a filling. Most of the time the teeth will need internal support, called build ups or post & cores, and a crown as a restoration.

Q. How to contact Dr. Woodham if we have further questions?
