How do you know that you are ready for a Work at Home Business?

We are so fortunate to be living in this age of the internet and all the tools that are free and at low cost that come with this access.

I have been teaching people about technology since the early part of the 1980's when computers were so much harder to use than they are today. People struggled with change, and did not want to give up the tools that they were so used to using.

Many of us use a combination of a laptop, or desktop computer, and cell phones that are basically small computers as well. We are connected to the internet most of the time when we are awake. We have access to news and friends and fun, as well as opportunities to work part time or full time at home. It is really amazing when you think about it.

One of the major requirements that you need to work at home successfully is access to a computer and the internet that is reliable. There are some people that work from the library, or other public access, but as soon as you can get reliable access at home you should take advantage of that.

Self discipline and time management are so important when you are working at home. It is easy to get "lost" in social networking or other past times on the computer that start out relevant, but segue into a waste of time. Set aside how much time that you need to build your business, and then a period of time for Twitter or Facebook with your friends. Make sure that you do most of your business first in that block of time, then you can reward yourself with fun.

Another consideration is your family situation. Many people that want or need to work at home are mothers of young children. You need to set a schedule, and then be somewhat flexible around the needs of your family. Can you trade a few hours a day of babysitting with a friend so that you can have uninterrupted time, or hire a teen to give you some time to concentrate? Once your business is going strong, you may be able to have a regular schedule with a sitter.

Some people that work at home are on the opposite spectrum and are caretakers for their spouse or adult parent (s). The same suggestions apply. You need to build your business as creatively as you can, and then hopefully develop some uninterrupted time each day for work.

Once your learn your business and get it under control, moving it forward and marketing it can really be done in 2-4 hours a day, 4-5 days a week. You can manage running a household, getting everyone to doctor's appointments, and having quality time with your family when you work with that schedule.

It is so important to use the free and low cost tools that are available on the internet. Keep an eye out for the things that will really help you manage your time, and evaluate programs before committing to a contract or a monthly charge. Be careful with your commitments, they can add up so that you are no longer making enough money to be profitable if you are not careful.

Success can definitely be yours if you make good decisions on time management, keeping costs down, and marketing your goods and services.

Choosing a good business fit for you is one of the most important decisions that you will make. Are you selling something that you make or services that you provide? Are you representing a company and their products and or services?

Make sure that you have a good team to work with you if you decide to go with a company. Training, support, and marketing tools are the top priority. We also need emotional support as we go through the learning curve and build up the confident attitude that you need for success.

The bottom line is that it is completely possible in this day and age to work at home for part time or full time success. You can do it!
