Things to consider when purchasing a hotel franchise
Most of the well known hotels are spread out across the nation and all over the world.

If you are considering purchasing a hotel franchise then it is important to understand what a hotel franchise is. It is a chain of hotels which is already established in the market and the name is well known and is willing to allow other businesses to enter into a contract to run a hotel with the same name' for a fee' according to the stipulated rules and regulations and usually with the franchisor’s guidance.

Before you purchase a hotel franchise you need to consider the following to make your decision.

• It is essential that you know all aspects of the hotel industry as you cannot rely only on your staff to run a successful organization and the lack of knowledge is likely to cost you heavy financial losses.

• You also need to know about the franchise holder. Is it a well-known chain like the Hilton' Marriot' etc.' because every franchise will have different degrees of acceptability as well as degrees of popularity. This you need to consider as it is common for guests to use hotels that they are familiar with than those they have not heard of. Though not correct to assume' guests feel comfortable and secure in a known brand. Therefore marketing the best brand is easier than marketing an unknown brand.

• Are there any conditions on locations or are you given a choice. If so assuming you can pick the location you want to it is important consider how marketable the property is in that location you have chosen or whether you should consider a better option in terms of area where there is potential for business and also potential for growth.

• Location should be according to the type of the hotel depending on whether it is a business hotel or a tourist hotel.

• The cost of the Franchise has to be taken into consideration and whether or not there are any royalties added on' apart from the franchise fee' as that will escalate your costs. Make comparisons of the cost of franchise versus your costs' and that will give you an idea whether or not your venture is going to be profitable. If your costing does not justify the business' then it is not wise to embark on a venture where you have already received warning signals.

• Also important is whether the property you plan to take on as a franchise will be marketed as a property of their group or whether you have to market your property on a stand alone basis as there are distinctive advantages if marketed as a property in the group. This way guests who look at the website off the brand will be able to find your location easily.

• Consider all the legal implications that are to be incorporated into your contract by the franchise holder and make sure that you are not exposed to unusual risks. Your attorney should go through all the legal documentation before you make any commitment.

Weigh the pros and cons and you will then be able to come to a decision whether or not to proceed taking Hotel Franchise in your name.
