An Interview with Dr. Stephen W. Robertson on Porcelain Veneers

Dr. Stephen W. Robertson is a dentist and has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Porcelain Veneers.

Q. What are porcelain veneers?

A. Porcelain Veneers are a shell of porcelain that fit over the teeth that can change the color, shape and size of your existing teeth.

Q. How long to dental veneers last?

A. Veneers last for a long time. It depends on how well you take care of them. Just like with a car, the better you take care of it the longer it will last.

Q. Do dental veneers require special care?

A. Other than a routine cleaning every 6 months and regular brushing and flossing Veneers do not require special care. You just want to make sure and not use extra abrasive toothpaste. It can dull the appearance of the Veneers.

Q. Are there alternatives to dental veneers?

A. There are several alternatives to Veneers such as bonding, full crowns, and braces to fix any spacing problems. However, for the best look you can’t beat veneers.

Q. Do Veneers look natural?

A. They are very natural and highly popular with celebrities that want that extra pop of a Movie Star Smile. When someone is in the spotlight you don’t want something that looks too fake. You can look at celebs such as Denzel Washington, Cindy Crawford, Tom Cruise, Halle Berry and Kate Beckinsale and see the results. Just like with Plastic Surgery there is a wide range of "natural" and you really need a reputable dentist to do the work. Always ask to see previous work and make sure to communicate what you are looking to get out of the treatment.

Q. Does the veneer protect one’s tooth from decay?

A. Veneers do not "protect" your tooth from decay but with proper brushing and flossing they will not "cause" any more decay than a normal tooth.

Q. How much does veneer cost?

A. A good rule of thumb is that Veneers will cost around $1000.00 per tooth. Your particular cost will be based on your specific treatment plan and any other problems that you may have. It is very important to take care of any gum disease or decay that you have prior to doing Veneers. You would not want to put a new roof on a house with termites. The same goes for dentistry.

Q. How to contact Dr. Robertson if we have further questions?
