Exercise is the Best Anti-Aging Weapon Bar None ~ Jill Kamas

Exercise is the BEST Weapon to Fight Aging
By:  Jill Kamas
Why It Matters
In the ongoing battle against aging, bar none, the BEST weapon we have is exercise. Physically speaking, aging is a general loss of strength, stamina, bone density, balance and flexibility.  This decline begins picking up pace in our thirties.  We start the dubious exchange of 1/3 – ½ lb. muscle each year for 1/3 lb fat, we lose an average of 10% of our strength per year, we lose 1% of our bone mass per year and our flexibility declines at a rate of 5% per year. The GOOD news is that each of those symptoms of aging can be put off until the very end of our lives by exercising daily and eating well.  It is that simple, we get to decide how well we live today and what measure of health we have in the latter years.  We can be healthy, vital and full of life or we can succumb to injury, illness and disease.
What to Do
Creating a good exercise program is easy. And all it takes is one hour/day. (keep reading we'll tell you how to find the hour of time)
  • Walk (briskly), jog, hike or bike 45 minutes 5-7 days/week
  • Incorporate strength training 3x/week.
What it Gives You
  • Increase the Number of Brain Cells
  • Reduces Stress
  • Improves Memory & Patience
  • Increases Energy, Focus & Clarity
  • Heightened Productivity
  • Improved Strength, Stamina and Endurance
  • Physical Stability, Flexibility, Balance,
  • Resistance against Injury, Illness and Disease
How to Make It Happen
I know, I know.  I have heard it all before… You are already too busy.  How can you possibly find an hour in your already over scheduled day?  Here’s the deal. What exercise gives you in terms energy and productivity more than makes up for the hour of time.
Most of our clients willingly take up the 45 minute brisk walking/hiking routine.  They LOVE it.  Fresh air, a bit of sunshine (vitamin D) and time and space to think.  The life improvement is immediate and significant.  It’s an easy sell.
Strength training, on the other hand, receives resistance which usually sounds like,  “I don’t want bulky, muscles.” Or “I don’t like going to the gym.”   Well ladies, I am here to tell you, strength training is THE best way to fight aging and unless you are taking steroids, there is little or no threat of  building bulky muscle.  What you will get is a long, lean, toned, beautiful  body.  Muscle  tissue, at rest burns more calories than fat.  By reversing the muscle for fat exchange you begin to rev up your metabolism.   Plus, strength training is the only thing that stops the dreaded flapping arms and drooping bottom.  HALLELUIAH to that!
The days of grunting in the gym hoisting up huge iron weights are over.  In fact, you can reap all of the benefits of strength training without ever lifting a weight.  It’s called resistance training which means moving your body’s weight against gravity (jump rope, lunges, more lunges, squats, step-ups, core work, push-ups, triceps dips, etc.)  You can do this without any equipment .  But if you like gadgets, I would recommend a mat, a yoga ball and resistance bands.
Get to it!  It will be the best thing you have done for yourself in a long time.  Guaranteed!
