An Interview with Dr. David Jackson on Procelain Veneers.

Dr. David Jackson is a Dentist and and has answered some of the common questions bizymoms visitors have about Procelain Veneers.

Q.  What are the advantages of veneers?

A.  Some of the advantages of veneers are as follows.

   - They provide the most predictable and stable way to achieve a lighter shade for patients.

   - They can improve the color, position, length, and shape of teeth.

   - They require less reduction of tooth surface than full coverage crowns.

   - They are generally less expensive than full coverage crowns.

   - They can often times be created in as little as two weeks.

   - They commonly last at least 10 years and have a history of lasting 20 years or longer.

Q.  How are teeth prepared for a veneer?

A.  Teeth are usually prepared by removing a small amount of tooth structure to make room for the addition of the porcelain veneers. Local anesthetic is generally provided for the patient’s comfort. Occasionally teeth require minimal to no preparation and no anesthetic but this is less common.

Q.  Will I need a temporary veneer between visits?

A.  After the teeth are prepared an impression is made which is then used to fabricate the porcelain veneers. This usually takes about two weeks at a dental laboratory. While the veneers are being fabricated a patient will wear temporary veneers that are made from acrylic or composite. The temporaries should be attractive and comfortable.

Q.  What happens after the veneer is fitted?

A.  Once the veneers are fabricated, a patient returns to the dentist for the veneers to be bonded on to the teeth. Once they are permanently bonded they are very durable and rarely displaced. The permanent veneers should be comfortable and easy to maintain with regular brushing and flossing.
