Q. What is tooth whitening?
A. Tooth whitening uses a compound to lift out the colors in the enamel of the teeth that a person has accumulated over time due to dark colored drinks like coffee, cola, tea or foods such as blueberries or chocolate.
Q. Who may benefit from teeth whitening?
A. Adults without front crowns are the best candidates for whitening.
Q. Who are not recommended to undergo teeth whitening?
A. Children under age 16 and adults that have front crowns or people that have very sensitive teeth.
Q. What does tooth whitening involve?
A. In-office whitening appointments require 1-1.5 hours; At home whitening is variable as it is up to the individual. Typically, it takes ½ hour per day for two weeks.
Q. How much does tooth whitening cost?
A. $175 for at home whitening and $200 for an in-office session.
Q. What are the side effects?
A. Some people report sensitive teeth which only lasts during the duration of the whitening. Once the teeth rehydrate, this sensitivity resolve, it is not a permanent condition. The other side effect is that the gums can be whitened which is also a temporary side effect.
