| Dr.William Adams is a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Here the Doctor has answered some of the common questions bizymoms visitors have about Liposuction.
Q. What is liposuction?
A. Liposuction (also known as lipoplasty or body contouring) is used for sculpting and contouring your body.
Many of our patients come to us with localized areas of fat that have been impossible to remove through exercise — no matter how hard they've tried. Other patients desire reduction over larger areas.
Keep in mind that Liposuction is not designed as a treatment for obesity, it is a proven way to improve the appearance, symmetry, and body lines by removing these localized areas of fat. Liposuction may be effectively used for chest, back, sides, arms, face, neck, waist, hips, buttocks, thighs and legs.
Q. Who is a good candidate for liposuction?
A. Most patients will tolerate a Liposuction procedure well.
Q. What are the risks associated with liposuction surgery?
A. As with any surgery, cosmetic, or other, there are potential risks. Bruising and swelling are the most common after-effects of Liposuction. Other less common risks include excessive bleeding, damage to deeper tissues and nerves, poor wound healing, and in some cases cardiac issues. However, a thorough medical history, good medical care before, during and after surgery, and a highly qualified surgeon will help reduce potential complications.
Q. What technique will the surgeon use to perform the liposuction?
A. Liposuction may be effectively used for chest, back, sides, arms, face, neck, waist, hips, buttocks, thighs and legs.
During a Liposuction procedure, an instrument is placed through a small incision and excess fat is removed. We perform all Liposuction procedures under either a local or general anesthesia.
With over 1,600 successful liposuction procedures, The Adams Center is one of greater Boston's premier liposuction surgeons.
Newer non-surgical techniques such as Zerona also exist, and may be useful with some patients.
Q. How long is the recovery period?
A. Full recovery is about 2 – 3 weeks for most patients.
Q. Are the results of liposuction permanent?
A. The results are long-lasting, and more or less permanent. However, diet and weight gain still need to be controlled as a significant new weight gain will reverse the effects of a Liposuction.
Q. How much does liposuction surgery cost?
A. Cost depends on the size of the area being treated, and vary widely. |
