Q. What are the various types of insurance your offer?
A. Delano Insurance Services offers coverage for Homes, Automobiles, Renters, Condominiums, Condominium Associations, Small Business and Term Life Insurance.
Q. How long do you take to process a claim?
A. Claim response is typically on the same day. Companies are learning that handling claims quickly is not only good business, it lowers their expenses. Claims called into our office are handled by our claims manager, who in turn works with the customer and the company to process the claim.
Company response times vary but mostly we respond within 24 hours. Several companies we represent have drive in claim facilities, mobile vans or individual adjusters that go directly to the customer. All losses or claims should be reported as soon as practical.
Q. A Teenager has been driving under his parent’ s policy for a few years now he wants to get insurance in his own name. Would you be able to help him with insurance?
A. Yes, Delano Insurance Services can assist inexperienced drivers with their own insurance. Many companies insure inexperienced drivers, who have been previously insured on their parent’ s policy.
Q. How does car insurance work for a teen with a learner’ s permit?
A. Most companies in Massachusetts do not rate for drivers with learner permits. However, once licensed it is imperative to notify the company to avoid coverage exclusions.
Q. At what age/point should a teen have an auto insurance policy in his/her name?
A. Every circumstance with an inexperienced operator is a bit different and should involve a conversation with your insurance agent. At Delano Insurance Services, we consider many factors when helping a parent make this decision.
Factors in deciding when a child should have his/her own car and insurance include years of driving experience, driving record, type of car, financial circumstances and the need to protect parent’ s access to insurance.
Q. A teenager just got his license. How can the parent insure him without going broke?
A. It is a fact that premiums increase dramatically when an inexperienced driver is added and his accident frequency supports the higher rate. However, there are ways to reduce the cost of insuring an inexperienced driver, including Driver Training, Good Student Discounts, Defensive Driver Courses and higher deductibles.
Parents can help their own cause by placing certain parameters or rules when their child drives a car. Parameters include, no cell phone or text messaging (the cell phone should be turned off… no exceptions) seat belts should be worn at all times, doors should be locked, child should call home at pre determined times and curfews when the car should be home. Remember, absolutely no consumption of any alcohol or drug… it is against the law.
Q. If parents decide to add their son to their auto insurance policy and he\' ll be taking one of their cars with him to college, what do they need to do?
A. Because the circumstances vary from one family to the next, parents should contact their insurance agent to discuss their specific situation.
Q. How does auto insurance vary between boys and girls?
A. In Massachusetts there is no premium difference among boys and girls. Drivers are rated based upon their years of experience, regardless of sex. Once a driver has had his/her license for at least six years, he/she is considered an experienced operator. Many companies now provide further discounts or credits, the longer someone is licensed and the longer they live at their current residence.
