Although Princess P is only 17 months old, I have heard it is never too early to start potty training. But picking a potty that your child will actually use is half the battle. I have seen potties that are inflatable, potties with cartoon characters on them and potties that sing. All of those seemed too distracting. We wanted a potty that was simple and got the job done. So when the BabyBjörn Smart Potty was brought to our attention I knew that it was the one.


Founded in 1961, BabyBjörn is a family-owned Swedish company. BabyBjörn very generously sent us their newest potty, the Smart Potty in red, to review. At first glance the Smart Potty looks like a combination of BabyBjörn's Potty Chair and Little Potty with each of their best features. The Smart Potty is the perfect size, fitting wonderfully in our downstairs half bath. Since it has a smaller design, the Smart Potty is ideal if you have two bathrooms (upstairs and downstairs) or even to take on trips. It also comes in bright, bold colors and a sleek design to get your little one's attention. The Smart Potty is easy to clean and the gripping on the bottom keeps it in one place.

So it is attractive and convenient but is is functional? When it first arrived Princess P had a hard time getting over the splash guard (which I guess is perfect for boys). Every time she would sit down she would sit right on it. It didn't take long for that problem to go away and another one to arise. We could not get her off of it! She would sit on it not to go potty, but to read books and play with her stuffed animals. Well, at least she is interested in it! Everyday we work with her on the Smart Potty and I am sure she will be going on it before we know it (at least I hope!).
