Q. What are the benefits of Eyelid Surgery?
A. For those who have impaired field of vision due to excess drooping of the upper eyelids, the benefits are increased field of vision. For all others, it's an improvement in their appearance. Blepharoplasty can make you look less tired by reducing the looseness and drooping of the upper eyelids, removing the bags under your eyes, and correcting the depression from under the eyes and cheeks. The surgery can also change the shape and look of the eyes. Patients having undergone blepharoplasty not only look more youthful, but also more refreshed, alert, and even happier!
Q. Will blepharoplasty correct my crow's feet?
A. Unfortunately, blepharoplasty alone will not correct crow's feet. These are best corrected with Botox and/or resurfacing of the skin.
Q. What causes dark circles under the eyes?
A. The most common reasons for dark circles are smoking, genetics, and poor circulation. They worsen when tired or fatigued.
Q. How long will eyelid surgery results last?
A. The results of eyelid surgery are permanent, but we continue to age and change. Fortunately, it takes a long time until the eyelids worsen enough for someone to want it performed again.
Q. Will there be scarring?
A. The scars are virtually invisible, hiding in the fold of the upper eyelid and right underneath the lashes of the lower eyelid.
Q. How long is the recovery?
A. Most patients can get back to work in 5-7 days with some mild swelling. Final results usually settle in about 3-4 months.
Q. What type of surgeon should perform my procedure?
A. A plastic surgeon, facial plastic surgeon (ENT), and oculoplastic specialist (ophthamologist) all have the training to perform eyelid surgeries. But it's important to choose a surgeon who not only has had ample experience with these procedures, but also whose beauty aesthetic or philosophy is consistent with yours. As with all plastic surgery procedures, a combination of experience, surgical expertise, and artistry is required for your desired outcome.
