| Dr. Andrew Ordon is a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Here the Doctor has answered some of the common questions bizymoms visitors have about Breast Lift.
Q. What is Breast Lifting?
A. Breast lifting involves tailoring the "skin brassiere" in such a way that it fits the breast mass volume. Droopy breasts result when a C cup breast has enough skin to cover a Double D. So there are three choices- One, reduce the skin covering the breast tissue so that both are perfect for a c-cup. Two, enlarge the breast to fill the loose skin or three, a little of both.
Q. How is breast lift surgery done?
A. All surgical experiences start with a consultation. We need to connect with our patient, find out who she is, what her lifestyle is like and what her goals are. Then together, we come up with a treatment plan, schedule surgery and follow our health check-up protocols to be sure surgery is safe. On the day of, we go over the plan again and discuss everything. Then, we do the surgery. It usually involves making incisions around the nipple and beneath them, so that even a small bikini top can cover our work. We do "tailor tacking" to check our surgical design before we "buy" the incisions. That way we know how it will come out before the first cut.
Q. What is the recovery period like?
A. Not as bad as you might think. Pain is over and sutures are out before two weeks.
Q. Who is an ideal candidate for breast lift surgery?
A. Severe cases have chronic rashes and skin darkening in the breast creases. But most people just wish that, when a bra is removed, the breasts just stay where they were when the bra was on. They want to be able to use minimally structured bras, or no bra at all! And with today’s techniques, they can have it all.
Q. Are there risks and complications to a breast lift surgery?
A. As with any surgery, it depends on how much is done. Obviously, breasts that droop to the floor require more work than beasts that droop after one baby. In breast lift surgery, the nipple is slid upwards to a higher location. Whenever the nipple is moved, an incision needs to be made. Incisions have the risk of healing poorly, which is the main risk.
Q. How long do the results last?
A. Forever. Unless there is substantial weight gain and loss, babies or other breast changing events, you should always be happy with your breast lift result.
Q. How much does breast lift surgery cost?
A. Our charges, including operating room, anesthesia and all aftercare are around $12,000.
