An Interview with Dr. Brent Moelleken on Breast Augmentation.

Dr. Brent Moelleken is a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Here the Doctor has answered some of the common questions bizymoms visitors have about Breast Augmentation.

Q.    What is Breast Augmentation?

A.    Enlarging the breasts with implants.

Q.    How is a breast augmentation surgery performed?

A.    We like to perform most procedures underneath the muscle, and measure carefully.  We encourage moderate sizes rather than extra large sizes which need frequent redo operations.

Q.    How can one find a qualified board certified plastic surgeon?

A.    First check for ABPS (American Board of Plastic Surgery, no substitutes), ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgeons, ASAPS (Aesthetic Society).

Q.    What type of anesthetic is used for breast augmentation surgery?

A.    Typically superlight general anesthesia, hopefully in Medicare approved facility, hopefully with board certified anesthesiologist.

Q.    What are the risks associated with breast augmentation?

A.    Bleeding, surgical risks, unhappiness with the procedure, maintenance, hardening of the implants, infection.  Typical lifespan is 10-15 years.  Women who pick conservative surgery are much less likely to have redo surgeries.

Q.    What is the recovery time for breast augmentation?

A.    1 week until driving, no exercise for 2 weeks, then start gradually.  Full release to exercise after 6 weeks.

Q.    How much does breast augmentation cost?

A.    Around 7500 in many experienced practices.  Can be more if lifts are involved, Silicone gel implants (they cost more) increase the cost as well.
