An Interview with Dr. John Kahen on Hair Transplant.

Dr. John Kahen is a member of International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. Here the Doctor has answered some of the common questions bizymoms visitors have about Hair transplant.

Q. Do you provide free consultation?

A. We provide complimentary consultation in the office, as well as online and phone consultation for patients traveling from outside of US or within the country.

Q. How long does a hair transplant procedure take?

A. The hair transplant procedure usually takes 4-6 hours and depends on the degree of baldness and coverage.

Q. Will hair transplants ever fall out?

A. The transplanted hair grafts are harvested from the back of the scalp which is called the "donor area" and genetically programmed to stay forever. Therefore, hair transplant is the permanent solution to hair loss.

Q. Are the clients kept conscious during the procedure?

A. In my clinic, we perform hair restoration procedure under local anaesthesia and the patient is fully awake throughout the entire procedure with minimal discomfort.

Q. When will the newly transplanted hair start to grow?

A. Hair growth from the transplanted follicles generally begins at 2.5 -3 months.    Some of the hairs can begin to grow as quickly as one month. The remainder of the hair will start to grow within the year following your procedure; patients will see the full results within 8 to 12 months.

Q. When can the clients resume normal activities like washing the hair, going in the sun, etc.

A. Patient can start washing the scalp a day after the procedure but strenuous activity is avoided till 10 days after the procedure.  I advise my patients to cover the transplanted area using a cap to avoid sun exposure for 10-14 days after the procedure.

Q. Are there any simple outpatient procedures available?

A. Hair Restoration Procedure is a simple outpatient procedure performed in my office with minimal recovery period.  Most patients can return to work the day after the procedure depending on the extent of the procedure.
