About this article: Underwater Hotels
Some people look for experiences that are out of the ordinary. One way to experience this is by staying in underwater hotels. Built under water, these are just like regular hotels with rooms, restaurants and entertainment; it's just that they are under water! |

| Underwater hotels |
Do you find the idea of underwater hotels ludicorous? Well, you may be sharing the same sentiment with a lot of people, but underwater hotels aren't too infamous. Here are a couple of the popular ones.
Jules' Undersea Lodge
Named after the author of the popular maritime story '20000 Leagues Under the Sea', the Jules' Undersea Lodge is the first ever underwater hotel in the world. It was built in the early 70s in Puerto Rico, but was shifted and made open to the public since 1986.
Currently the only underwater hotel where people can stay, it has been host to a variety of popular figures, including the former Canadian PM, Pierre Trudeau. Newcomers, who aren't professionally qualified in diving have to take a 3 - hour crash course before being allowed in the room for the night. If you're a diving freak, the Undersea Park is the place to go!
It has all the facilities that a modern hotel has, and you can get a view of the underwater world with the 42 inch windows. A great place for the adventurous person in you!
Utter Inn
Most underwater hotels are still in the pipeline and are being constructed. However, one particular Mr. Mikael Genberg has a wild imagination when he dreamt the Utter Inn in Vasteras, Sweden. He made the blueprints with the focus on 'making art for the public'.
This single - room inn is about 3 metres below Lake Malaren and is about a kilometer away from the seashore. An extra fee will ensure that Mr. Genberg will serve dinner to the residents, or else you'll have to serve yourself.
The room has a beautiful view of the lake. Rather than looking at fishes in aquarium, you get to be in the aquarium with the fishes staring at you in wonder! A great experience which only few have experienced, but which is really popular. Better reserve ASAP!
Hydropolis
Dubai has become home to a lot of modern architecture and this underwater hotel, known as the Hydropolis is one of them. It's under construction and is budgeted to cost nearly $550 million. It will be situated at the very bottom of the Persian Gulf, which is 66ft below the surface. It will have a 'land station', which will be connected to the undersea hotel. There will be 220 suites, and you'll have to wait until 2009 to take a trip there! J
