The Hyatt
Hyatt Hotels, one of the famous and international hotel chains having a significant presence worldwide, is, administratively within the Global Hyatt Corporation. Presently, the Hyatt Corporation is headquartered at Hyatt Center in downtown Chicago.

With respect to its inception, it can be said that it was born, with the purchase of the Hyatt House at Los Angeles International Airport on September 27, 1957. Incidentally, the original owners were two entrepreneurs named, Hyatt R. von Dehn and Jack D. Crouch. Hyatt R. von Dehn, however, was eager to get out of the hotel business, so he sold his share of the enterprise to Jay Pritzker, who, interestingly, heard that the hotel was for sale while he was waiting in a coffee shop for a flight. He scribbled an amount of 2.2 million on a napkin and the deal was made and the Hyatt Corporation was born. Original partner Crouch continued to run the hotels with Pritzker only until 1965, and then he left the corporation to pursue his own hotel businesses. The Hyatt Corporation was then handled by Pritzker and his brother Don.

The Hyatt came into the limelight and became famous it opened the world's first atrium hotel in 1967, the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, a decade after opening its first hotel. Then, in 1969, they expanded their operations overseas, by opening its first, the Hyatt Regency Hong Kong. Then, in 1980, this great hotel chain, introduced their two other brands which are famous today; the Grand Hyatt and Park Hyatt. They became further famous with their opening of its first resorts, the Hyatt Regency Maui in 1980. With continued expansion and fame, the Hyatt today operates over 340 hotels worldwide.

Hyatt Brands

The Hyatt Hotels as a group, as mentioned before, operates several hotel chain brands. Of them, the Hyatt Regency brand is oldest while the Grand Hyatt and Park Hyatt the later additions in 1980. Some of these Hyatt properties are operated in the Resort category where they offer a unique product offering such as spas and recreational facilities.

A very latest addition to their list of brands is the Hyatt Place concept, specially designed with limited service offering catering to business travelers. As recently as 2005, the Hyatt Group added another chain Summerfield Suites which is spread in 20 destinations in the U.S. Then, in 2007, they launched a new brand named Andaz and this brand will first borne by The Great Eastern Hotel in London while two other properties in the U.S. in New York and Austin, TX will follow suit.

Lastly, the Hyatt Group not only operates itself in hotel chains, they also operate in apartments as well. These properties, called the Hyatt Residency, are co-located with Grand or Park Hyatt properties. The group also offers retail home décor and furnishings through Hyatt at Home, an online store featuring luxury products. (www.wikipedia.com)
