Oldest hotels
In most cities around the world, there would be a hotel somewhere which reminds you of the olden times. Most of these would have been built pre - 2nd WW, and most even go back to the times of Queen Victoria. There are some hotels which go even beyond that.

However, it may not be very cheap, though it would be cheaper than high end hotels. They may also not be the most luxurious place to stay. However, whatever said and done, these old hotels do have an aura of their own with the old settings and lack of modern facilities.

However, it would be a fairly good idea if you have some money, to stay in these hotels so that you can get a real feel of how it would have been in those days, and the facilities that they considered luxury

Hotel Sofitel Cecil Alexandria, Egypt

This hotel gives you a chance to experience Alexandria in all its glory. Situated in the middle of the business area, having a view of the bay and the yacht club, this beautiful hotel isn't too far away from the airport, which makes it a good choice regardless of whether the purpose of your trip is business or entertainment. Though it was built in 1929, it has not lost touch with the modern world as it takes a perfect balance between modern facilities and the charm of ancient times.

Hoshi Ryokan, Japan

This hotel (rather, inn) was founded in AD 717. Quite amazing, isn't it? Even more amazing is the fact that this hotel has been run by the same family for 46 generations running. This inn is able to accommodate 450 people inside 100 rooms. Each of the customer is treated like a King / Queen! In addition, you'll be treated to a traditional Japanese welcome by attending a tea ceremony.

Hotel Pilgrim Haus, Germany

This hotel, another family - run business, started operations in 1304, nearly 700 years ago! It is now run by the Andernachs in Soest, a city situated 110m north of Frankfurt. The foyer and the restaurant serve reminders of the period in which it was started, along with the old bricks from which the wall was built. Soest doesn't lack in valleys, waterfalls & lakes, and has some beautiful natural views, and is well reputed for being a nice place to 'walk'!
