What to look for in a historic hotel
As with any other hotel you might stay, it can to some extent, be the same things to look for in a historic hotel. But, apart from the normal offerings of any hotel, as the word 'historic' suggests, we have to look for and the hotel should offer that historic experience for the traveler, that should be second to none and it should be unique beyond anything.

In the modern hospitality market, many travelers and guests from all over world are aiming at a stay in a historic hotel. They are now willing to let go that modern technological comforts of large plasma TVs and WiFi for an experience that comes above all and historic in nature. Experiencing locations where historic people have once walked and experiencing places where landmark history is a phenomenon that no one can describe fully in words.

In anyone's search for a historic hospitality experience, it is advisable to contact the Historic Hotels of America Group. In the year 1989, the National Trust for Historic Preservation launched the Historic Hotels of America with the objective of promoting heritage tourism. In this program they have identified over 200 properties across the states, under the guidelines of historic integrity, architecture and ambiance. A perfect example of a property in this group is the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Virginia. It points out the meaning of being historic and the meaning of experiencing these historic destinations first hand in terms of a city hotel with luxurious modern touches. The hotel is a behemoth Beaux Arts and Renaissance Revival structure with a grand "Gone with the Wind" staircase and stunning stained-glass skylights. The rooms and amenities aren't much different from those found in internationally known five-star hotels, but can the Peninsula Hong Kong say that alligators once roamed its lobby? Or that Bill Bojangles Robinson's dancing career was launched when he tap-danced his way across the hotel restaurant floor after "accidentally" spilling soup on an influential producer?

In the same manner, it is not wrong to say that, Wentworth Mansion in the heart of historic Charleston, South Carolina, seems like a kind of place that is extraordinarily historic and chances are there that it would have hosted Thomas Jefferson himself. Completed in 1886 in a Second Empire style, the Wentworth was originally the sprawling four-story Gilded Age residence of Francis Silas Rodgers. European artisans used imported materials to craft many of the details that can still be enjoyed by guests today.

As seen from the above two examples, it is clear that what a real historic hotel offers its guests. The experiences they offer for their guests is not just a historic experience for themselves only, but they propagate a sense of shared achievement, honor and patriotism which goes above and beyond anything since some of these historic places have had a share in shaping the destiny and future of a country, in fact the greatest country on earth. Having bearing to such events is something truly magical and for the ones who get to experience these places once more, the experience is indescribable in words.
