Street Fashion Trends
Tatel Velásquez is from Colombia and was born in 1983. A self-taught photographer and a fashion lover, founded in 2008 with Tomy Pelluz, Trendycrew.com, a blog dedicated to capture the fashion trends by taking pictures in different cities. The project is based in Barcelona but Velásquez has walked the streets of New York, Milan, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, and Bratislava trying to identify the styles of each city.

1. Why did you start your blog?

In my city, Barcelona, there are a lot of fashion events going on and I had the opportunity to assist in most of them. With the blog I just wanted to show all those stylish people, and I knew that could help others find inspiration. I wanted to know if the styles I saw in the street were going to be trends and if people would like them.

In the end the blog turned out to be a mixture of three fields that I love, which are fashion, Internet and photography.

2. From which specific sources do street fashion designers acquire inspiration for their designs?

Well I wouldn't say there are street fashion designers. Designers in general get inspiration from different sources and street style is one of those sources. I think they look at street fashion blogs to see what the trendsetters are wearing and then they get inspiration for future collections. I conceive designers as very observant people who are always taking the pulse of the cities and the society, always looking and in search of constant inspiration that can come from the girl who is sitting next to them in a coffee shop or the people that go to their shows.

3. How can people get to know about the newest street fashion trends?

I think the best way is to have your eyes wide open and look at what is going on in the streets, what people are wearing. If more than three girls are wearing over the knee boots - that could be a trend. Also check street style blogs to see what people are wearing in cities like Paris, NY, Tokyo, or Seattle.

4. Can you name some of the best street fashion inspired magazines?

There are a lot of good street fashion magazines - two of them are Tuned and Fruits and Street. There are also some online magazines such as borderline.com which features shots from the main street style sites, and you can also see fashion editorials which people submit.

5. How is street fashion photography different from normal fashion photography?

Well, it's more spontaneous, as there is no studio and you have to improvise a lot, work with the light you have, the lack of space or nice backgrounds, and you have to be fast - the person you stopped might be in a hurry or just shy. It's also more complicated because street style photographers do not normally deal with models, just random people we stop in the streets, so we have to convince them to pose in middle of a crowded street without looking embarrassed, and try to get a nice and natural shot.

6. In your opinion, which street fashion styles have stood the test of time?

I would say the style of leggings, over sized t-shirts and short boots which we have been seeing for the past two years, are here to stay.
