| Importance of introducing your child to dental health at an early age Beaumont |
Importance of introducing your child to dental health at an early age
Dental health affects your overall health. The earlier a child realizes the importance of maintaining dental health it will be better, as this will help the child to keep healthy throughout his or her entire life span.
Regular dental care is essential for healthy teeth. Healthy teeth and a healthy mouth will help to prevent diseases in the mouth such as cavities, toothaches and gum problems. Dental care has to start at a very young age and has to be continued throughout life. If a child neglects dental health and spoils his or her mouth and teeth, it may be too late to prevent diseases in teeth and mouth later in life. This can result in falling ill constantly. So, the non introduction of dental health to a child at an early age can adversely affect the child’s health throughout his or her life.
The quality of life of a person can get affected by poor dental health. Toothaches, tooth infections and missing teeth can have an effect on the speaking, eating and socializing habits of a person. By affecting the physical, mental and social well –being a person’s quality of life can be reduced by dental problems. It has also been found that diseases like diabetes, heart disease and stroke are also aggravated by poor dental health. Therefore, dental health should be taught to a child at a very young age so that these problems can be avoided.
Parents have a vital role to play with regard to the proper dental care of their babies. Children should not be allowed to go to sleep with bottles of sugary drinks or milk in their mouths, as this will lead to dental diseases. From the time their children are one year old, babies they should be looked after by a dentist in order to ensure there is proper dental care. The children are then likely to realize the importance of dental health and make the visit to a dentist on regular basis to protect their teeth as a habit. This will help the children to maintain their dental health later on.
Children need to be taught the correct way to brush their teeth and the importance of flossing. It is good if a child brushes his or her teeth after every meal as there is a chance of plaque taking hold and acids forming, if the food stays in the teeth for a long time. If you can get your child to use a fluoride rinse after brushing and flossing, it will give extra protection. All these should be taught to the child at a young age so that the instructions will stick in his or her mind and there is a likelihood of the process been continued.
