Cosmetic Dentistry Trends

Cosmetic dentistry has emerged and evolved from the original need to maintain good oral health practices and ongoing tooth restorations, not only for the wellness of the teeth, but of the surrounding areas including the gums, oral cavity, tongue, tissues, jaw and even the facial structure and appearance. Naturally the requirements to feel good frequently resulted in looking good, and the growth of the emphasis on the ‘look good factor’ birthed the cosmetic dental industry.

Moving on from utilizing dental procedures such as teeth whitening, crowns and braces - cosmetic dental processes have developed and grown in leaps and bounds to become a formidable force in the field of ‘beauty’ in current times.

Simple teeth ‘whitening’ has gone beyond to bleaching, making teeth look even whiter than their original color. Crowns started out as being a protective measure for damaged, broken, and root canal subjected teeth but proceeded to double up as a status symbol when fabricated out of silver or gold. They are now being made of tooth colored substances including porcelain to preserve the uniform appearance of the teeth and enhance attractive appearance.

Dental braces for irregular teeth are now being replaced by other apparatus such as the veneer [also sometimes referred to as instant orthodontics, ibraces, transparent braces and microimplant, giving the wearer a much easier and more comfortable option. Above all they eliminate the horror of having to pour your heart out in a smile which makes others cringe, when they see the unsightly wires and ugly protrusions.

Cosmetic dental trends do not confine themselves to the actual solutions only, but also to the various techniques and materials introduced by technological advances, promoting diagnosis and apparatus into high quality substitutes for older time worn counterparts. The use of fiber optics, micro-abrasion, digital diagnostic cameras and x-ray, are amongst these innovations.

Another significant factor to be observed is that no longer are people even seeking cosmetic measures to merely camouflage and cover up their dental sins, but the trend is towards having a complete overhaul of the mouth by the process known as the ‘mouth reconstruction,' and the popular ‘smile makeover.'

It looks like cosmetic dentistry is here to stay – and not just for the celebrities and superstars to acquire a dazzling smile but for the general public to whom financing plans are also a growing trend, enabling them to go out and grab that opportunity to turn heads with a brilliant smile!
