Dr. Robert E. Williams is an orthodontist and has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Braces.
Q. Can one be too old for braces?
A. You are never too old for orthodontic treatment as long as your teeth and gums are healthy.
Q. How much do braces cost?
A. The cost of treatment will vary depending on the length of treatment, severity of the problem, and the type of appliances you desire. The cost of treatment can be reduced if the total fee is paid when treatment is begun, or payments may be spread out over the length of treatment if you desire
Q. When will one begin to see changes in his/her teeth after the braces are put on?
A. Changes can be seen in as little as a few months, depending on the nature of the problem.
Q. Will one need to have teeth extracted for braces?
A. Correction of a malocclusion without extractions is always our goal. However, in cases of extreme crowding extractions may be necessary.
Q. How long will it take to complete the treatment?
A. Treatment time will vary depending on the severity of the problem. Some corrections can be achieved in a few months, others may take approximately two years.
Q. Can a person wear braces even though that person may have crowns and missing teeth?
A. Yes, previous dental treatment does not preclude successful orthodontic results.
Q. How can I prevent my child from being embarrassed by wearing braces?
A. Today, many children in middle school wear braces. Clear braces or Invisalign aligners for teens or adults minimize esthetic concerns.
