Baltimore Insurance Agent - An Interview with Sean L. Brooks

Q. Tell us about yourself and your firm.

A. My name is Sean L Brooks and I am the principal for Ananiah LLC in Catonsville MD. I have been an insurance agent for the past 19yrs. I started my career while in high school as a file clerk, in what was then my father’ s agency. Since then, I have learned every aspect of a retail insurance agency. Ananiah LLC is the 2nd generation agency that started back in 1983 as AL Laws Insurance Agency. AL Laws operated his agency until 1995. At that time he took on some key employees that formed the ownership of Ananiah LLC. We are a retail, personal & small business lines agency offering auto, home, small business & life insurance solutions.

Q. What are the various types of insurance you offer?

A. We offer all types of personal lines solutions like… auto, home, flood, umbrella and wedding coverage, term & permanent life insurance. We also offer small business coverage and we specialize in the trucking industry.

Q. How long do you take to process a claim?

A. For most of our clients the insurance carrier they are insured with, processes the claims directly with the client. The client can simply call an 800 number that is available 24/7 and start the claim process.

Q. A Teenager has been driving under his parent’ s policy for a few years now he wants to get insurance in his own name. Would you be able to help him with insurance?

A. Yes. Because we have many insurance carriers to choose from, there isn’ t any type of driver we can’ t insure.

Q. How does car insurance work for a teen with a learner’ s permit?

A. That really depends on the carrier, but again because we have options we can tailor a policy for a driver of any age, that has only a driver’ s permit.

Q. At what age/point should a teen have an auto insurance policy in his/her name?

A. Again age is not a trigger to purchase auto insurance. Once you have purchased a vehicle and it is titled with the MVA in your name, then you must have current auto insurance (no matter how old or young you are).

Q. What is the connection between risk and life insurance?

A. Well the purpose for all insurance is to protect your risks. When it comes to Life Insurance, the risk then becomes the cost associated with your death and the estate that you leave behind. This includes living expenses for your spouse and children, taxes that may need to be paid and possibly debt that you have left.

Q.What does it mean to be the owner of a life insurance policy? Who is the owner of such policy?

A. The owner of a Life policy is the purchaser. Let me give you an example. A parent buys a life insurance policy on their dependent child. Well the parent is the policy owner, but the child is the insured.

Q. Is there a certain amount of life insurance a person is required to buy?

A. No. Life Insurance is calculated based on what we call a Needs Analysis. This is when an agent will calculate your assets and liabilities to determine how much life insurance you will need.
