Dr.Michael Scott Haydon is a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Here the Doctor has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Mommy Makeover
Q. What is a Mommy Makeover?
A. This is a description of a procedure that typically combines breast surgery and body contouring at the same time.
Q. Who is a good candidate for Mommy Makeover?
A. Those women who are through having children and have a body mass index (BMI) less than 30 are best suited for the surgery. The ideal candidate is someone who also has a good diet and exercise program.
Q. What are the important facts about the safety and risks of the Mommy Makeover?
A. For those who are not overweight and have no significant medical problems the surgery is extremely safe. This is particularly because it is done with a board certified anesthesiologist and in a hospital setting. Care is also taken not to try and combine too many procedures that may result in excessive operative times or blood loss. In addition, we often limit the amount of liposuction that might be done if included with an abdominoplasty to try and decrease the risk of blood clot formation. While blood clot formation is low, it does increase with large amounts of concomittant liposuction.
Q. What happens during the Mommy Makeover surgery? What are the Options for the Mommy Makeover?
A. Typically there is breast reshaping which may include augmentation and/or breast lifts or for some women a breast reduction.
This is coupled with liposuction and sometimes the abdominoplasty.
Q. What is the recovery time for Mommy Makeover?
A. The abdominoplasty has about a 10-14 day recovery. Liposuction by itself and the breast surgeries typically are closer to one week. Breast augmentation has least amount of recovery and people are usually able to run errands and drive in a day or two.
Q. How much will the Mommy Makeover cost?
A. Every person is different regarding what they desire and the surgery that would be necessary to give them the outcome they want. For that reason we typically have to see them in the office for a consult and at that time a quote can be given. We do offer financing in our practice.
