Q.    What are dental implants?


A.    Surgically placed pins in the bone to replace lost teeth, acts as the root of the new crown.


Q.    What are the benefits of dental implants?


A.    Long lasting, cannot decay, and very stable and do not damage adjacent teeth.


Q.    How long does an implant last?


A.    If maintained properly with professional cleaning, they should last a life time.


Q.    What are implants made of?


A.    Implants are made of Titanium alloy


Q.    Who is a candidate for implants?


A.    Almost anyone can be a candidate for implants. Smokers and diabetics have a higher rate of implant failure. Sometimes bone grafting is required prior to implant placement.


Q.    How are dental implants placed?


A.    Surgically with special burs that create a space in the bone for the implant, then the implant is seated.


Q.    How long does it take?


A.    We recommend at least 4 months healing prior to finishing with a new crown placement. The surgery generally takes about one and a half hours.
