An Interview with Dr. Angela Yen Moore on Cosmetic Dermatology.

Dr. Angela Yen Moore is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology. Here the doctor has answered some of the common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Cosmetic Dermatology.

Q.    What causes spider veins on face and legs?

A.    Sun exposure, use of oral contraceptions, hormone therapy, and age or genetics.

Q.        How does laser treatment help treat facial and spider veins?

A.    For spider veins, we use the Elite Yag laser that emits a prescribed dose of energy to the vein. The laser selectively targets the problem veins while sparing the surrounding areas. After treatment, the vessel will naturally disappear.

Q.    How many laser treatments are required to effectively treat facial and spider veins?

A.    Typically only two or three treatments are required and results can be seen in three to four weeks after each treatment.

Q.    Are there any side effects of using laser treatment for facial and spider veins?

A.      Some of the side effects of using laser treatment include pigment irregularity from the laser which will fade over time. Bruising may occur around the treated areas, which can be treated with a topical.

Q.    Are the effects permanent?

A.    The results of the areas treated are permanent, however new veins can appear due to lifestyle.
