Located in Washtenaw County along the Huron River, Ann Arbor is a major college town. And, of course, it's also a sports town. The Big Blue are perennial powerhouses in football and basketball and have won national championships in both. Established in 1817, the University of Michigan is recognized as an educational and medical center. Many local attractions are affiliated with the school, including the UM Museum of Art and the UM Stearnes Musical Collection. Ann Arbor's charm lies in the fact that it possesses the best features of a large city, offering various entertainment, dining, shopping, and cultural options, yet still retains the intimacy of a smaller town. Highlights include the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Archives, the Henry Ford Museum, and the UM Football Stadium, which is the nation's largest college-owned facility. In addition, the city puts on the popular Ann Arbor Blues and Jazz Festival each September.
