An Interview with Dr. Natalie E. Henke on Dental Implants

Dr. Natalie E. Henke is a dentist and has answered some of the most common questions Bizymoms visitors have about Dental Implants.

Q. What are dental implants?

A. Dental implant treatment involves the replacement of a missing tooth/teeth with a titanium "root."  The implant "root" is placed in the jaw by an oral surgeon or periodontist. The patient’s treating general dentist then delivers a connecting abutment and final crown.

Q. What are the benefits of dental implants?

A. Dental implants are wonderful as they do not put forces on adjacent teeth and are not removable. They simply replace what is missing. It is as amazing as if the patient grew another tooth!

Q. How long does an implant last?

A. Once integrated into the jaw, dental implants can last for the life of the patient. They do not decay.

Q. What are implants made of?

A. Titanium metal alloy.

Q. Who is a candidate for implants?

A. Patients who are otherwise healthy, free from diabetes and non-smokers are generally eligible for dental implants.

Q. How are dental implants placed?

A. Dental implants are placed into a patient’s jaw by a oral surgeon or periodontist. The surgeon uses a very slow moving dental handpiece to precisely place the titanium "root" into the jaw.

Q. How long does it take?

A. The surgery usually takes less than an hour.

Q. How to contact Dr. Henke if we have further questions?
