An Interview featuring Dr. James Frederick Libecco as a Cosmetic Dermatologist on Bizymoms Akron
Dr. James Frederick Libecco is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. Here the Doctor has answered some of the common questions bizymoms visitors have about Cosmetic Dermatology.

Q.What field of cosmetic dermatology do you specialize in?

Minimally invasive rejuvenation techniques including liquid facelifts, Botox, fillers, and laser therapy.

Q. How does Juvederm work?

Juvederm is a gel made of hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration.  Juvederm is very smooth and silky when injected under the skin.  This works  to instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your "smile lines" or "parentheses" (nasolabial folds—the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth).

Q. How long does the juvederm procedure take and what takes place during the procedure

The process takes between 30 and 45 minutes, but most of that time is allotted for preparing the patient.  The treatment time is usually less than 15 minutes.  We work to provide a calm environment.  To ease pain we apply an anaesthetic cream that works to limit pain while the gel is injected into the skin.

Q. What are the side effects of the Juvederm procedure?

The treatment is safe for adult patients of all ages and even for all skin types!  Patients should review their medical history with a  qualified, board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon prior to therapy.
There is a distinct possibility of bruising related to the injections into the skin—much like any injection in the skin.  Likewise, there is a small chance of infection anytime there are injections of any product into the skin.  Patient should avoid aspirin and alcohol as well as other blood thinning products if possible ahead of the procedure to limit bruising.  There are rare cases where the body works to wall-off the product in the skin, resulting in nodules which can be managed in several different ways.

Q. How long does the results of a Juvederm procedure last?

Typically, most patients will be satisfied for about one year from the injection before they need a touch-up treatment to refill the areas the product has been naturally broken down by our body (since it is a naturally occurring substance).

Q. How soon can the results be visible after a Juvederm procedure?

The great part about this treatment is the immediate results.  While temporary redness and swelling are common immediately after the procedure, the filling is immediate and complete at the time of the treatment.
